Organisation & planning
You don’t need to be naturally organised to keep on top of school life—small, simple systems can make a massive difference to your family’s daily rhythm.
Family calendars
- Choose one main calendar for school dates (wall calendar, planner, or digital calendar).
- Add term dates, teacher-only days, trips, sports, and regular activities.
- Review the week ahead together as a family.
Paperwork and notices
- Have one spot for school notices, forms, and newsletters.
- Fill in and return forms as soon as you can.
- Take photos of important notices so you have a backup on your phone.
Back-to-school preparation
- A week before term starts, check uniforms, shoes, and stationery.
- Gently shift bedtimes and wake-up times back towards school routines.
- Talk with your child about what they’re looking forward to and any worries.
Organisation is a skill that grows over time—for both adults and children. Take it one step at a time. Encourage yourself to start with one or two ideas that feel doable and build from there.
Weekly organisation
- Set aside a short time each week to check bags, notices, and upcoming events.
- Keep a simple “school station” at home for bags, shoes, hats, and homework.
- Use checklists for busy times (like the start of term or sports days).
Time-saving hacks
- Double up on dinners so you have leftovers for lunches or busy nights.
- Pack bags and lay out uniforms the night before.
- Keep a small stash of birthday cards, wrapping, and spare supplies.
