Six Key Pillars of Wellbeing

Screens

Helping tamariki navigate the digital world. We offer handy advice for balanced screen use and mindful media habits to encourage focus and a creative spark in every child.

Sleep

Connection

Getting enough shut-eye is vital for brain growth. We look at how steady sleep patterns help with concentration and managing big feelings as they start their school journey.

Creating solid links with mates and grown-ups. We prioritise social skills and ensuring every child feels truly heard when settling into their new surroundings.

Movement

Language

Active play and sensory discovery. We chat about how physical activity aids motor skills and helps little ones digest all that new information.

Words and talking. We look at how great kōrero and storytelling support their journey toward reading and basic maths skills.

Predictability

The value of a solid routine. We show how a calm, reliable home life lowers worry and builds a real sense of belonging.

Normal Routines

Handy hints for making a calm and steady space that supports your little one as they settle into their local school.

Creating Solid Routines

  • Keep to a steady morning plan to boost confidence. Use a visual calendar for school days. Have a little 'getting ready' song for those busy morning transitions.

Managing Device Use

  • Keep screens to 30 mins a day before bed. Make sure family kai time is a screen-free zone for everyone to have a chat.

Getting Out & About

  • Aim for at least an hour of outdoor play every day. Try some simple stretches or yoga at home. Play some active games to help teach them about numbers.

Talking & Connection

  • Read a pukapuka together for 20 mins nightly. Ask them about their day at school. Use a 'feeling diary' to track their many emotions.
